An Apple event scheduled for Wednesday (Sept. 9), Surprise and Shine, will mark the beginning of the longest series of device releases in the company’s history, Bloomberg reported Friday (Sept. 4).

The wave will continue through 2029 and beyond, and it will include new product areas, according to the report.

Many of the products were developed by John Ternus’ team before he was named Apple’s new CEO, and former CEO Tim Cook decided to step down from that post on Tuesday (Sept. 1) to let Ternus introduce them, the report said.

The Surprise and Shine event is expected to include the unveiling of the latest iPhones and Apple Watches, according to the report.

By early 2027, Apple is expected to release a foldable iPhone and a smart home hub with a screen, as well as the latest AirPods, Apple TV, HomePod mini, iPad mini, iMac, MacBook Pro, the report said.

Apple’s new products in development for 2027 are expected to include AirPods with camera sensors, a home security sensor and service, and smart glasses, together with updates to several existing devices, according to the report.

In 2028 and beyond, Apple’s new products may include a version of the smart home hub that includes a robotic arm to move the display, an overhaul of the Apple Vision Pro, a pendant with a camera for artificial intelligence, a foldable iPad and augmented reality glasses based on lightweight spectacles, per the report.

Apple’s plans are fluid, and devices could be delayed or scrapped, the report said.

It was reported Monday (Sept. 1) that in his first comments to employees as CEO, Ternus touted Apple’s annual September product showcase.

“We have a huge launch next week that’s going to be phenomenal,” Ternus wrote in an introductory memo, according to the report. “I’m just as excited about what lies beyond that, including the incredible products already in the works and the ones we haven’t even imagined yet that we’ll dream up and create together.”

Apple announced in April that Ternus would succeed Cook as CEO on Sept. 1. At the time, Ternus was senior vice president of hardware engineering.
