UNDERCOVER Turns Its ‘UNDERMAN’ Mythology Into a Feature Film With ‘UNDERGIRL’

UNDERCOVER is stepping into filmmaking with UNDERGIRL, billed as the debut movie from UNDERCOVER PRODUCTION. The project revives the fictional universe first laid out in UNDERMAN, the photo-and-graphic art book that accompanied the brand's Spring/Summer 2011 collection, and reanimates it 15 years later as a 54-minute feature.

The narrative centers on Yuri Ibuki, the daughter of a hero named UNDERMAN who has long shouldered the sorrows of the city while protecting its people. When he vanishes without warning, a mysterious envoy called Kiko appears before Yuri and guides her toward an inescapable destiny: succeeding her father and becoming UNDERGIRL. The film follows her through the trials that transformation demands.

The production is led by UNDERCOVER PRODUCTION, a unit built around Jun Takahashi alongside Tetsuya Nagato, Katsuhide Morimoto and Taro Mizutani. Morimoto, a photographer and filmmaker, directs, while the screenplay was written jointly by Takahashi, Nagato, Morimoto and Mizutani. Takahashi additionally serves as executive producer.

The casting anchors the fiction with recognizable faces. Sena Nakajima plays the lead, Yuri Ibuki and UNDERGIRL, opposite Ryuhei Matsuda as UNDERMAN. Kiko Mizuhara, who appeared in the original 2011 UNDERMAN project, returns here, and Mitsuko Baisho joins as another key figure moving through the story.

UNDERGIRL screens at SPACE PART 3 by PARCO in Shibuya from September 14 through September 20, 2026, with weekday showings at 6 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. and weekend showings at 2 p.m. and 4 p.m. Tickets are available from September 2 via the venue's dedicated web page.
