Jewelers Mutual Names New CEO

Jewelers Mutual has appointed Mike Alexander as its new CEO to succeed Scott Murphy, who is retiring.

Alexander joined the group in 2015, and has contributed significantly to its development, Jewelers Mutual said Tuesday. His knowledge of the company’s strategy, operations and competitive position led him to his promotion to president in 2025, it added.

As president, Alexander cooperated with Murphy to convert the company’s long-term strategy into day-to-day goals. In his new position as CEO, he will focus on expanding the company into new markets, strengthening its digital and technology capabilities, and widening its solutions for jewelers and consumers.

Murphy will retire at the end of the year after 12 years at the company. During his time there, he oversaw its expansion from a specialty insurer into a technology-focused company with an international presence. Murphy will continue to serve as a member of Jewelers Mutual’s executive committee.

“[Murphy] had a clear-eyed vision for what Jewelers Mutual could become – not just a better insurer, but a genuine leader to the jewelry industry,” said Robert Reeg, chair of the board for Jewelers Mutual. “He built something that will serve this industry for the next century. We are deeply grateful for his leadership and proud of everything the team has accomplished under his guidance. We are equally confident in [Alexander’s] ability to lead Jewelers Mutual into its next chapter – his vision and steady hand give the board great optimism for what’s ahead.” 

Alexander will assume his new role on January 1, 2027.
