The 2026 UTMB is here, and it’s time for the biggest names in the sport to converge on the big loop around Mont Blanc! Time flies when we’re having fun, and this is iRunFar’s 16th year covering the race.

This year, the UTMB course is 177 kilometers (110 miles) long and gains almost 9,900 meters (32,000 feet) of elevation as it loops around the Mont Blanc massif from Chamonix, France, through Italy and Switzerland, before finishing back in Chamonix.

The race starts at 5:45 p.m. Central European Summer Time (9:45 a.m. Mountain Daylight Time in the U.S.) on Friday, August 28.

The current UTMB course records, on a course closest to the modern course, are held by a pair of Americans who both spend a lot of time in France. Katie Schide set the current women’s record at 22:09:31 in 2024, and Jim Walmsley set the men’s record at 19:37:43 in 2023. In fairness, the course evolves a bit with regularity, and sometimes experiences mid-race changes for weather.
