The Leadville 100 Mile and two Skyrunner World Series races were the weekend’s biggest highlights.

Leadville 100 Mile – Leadville, Colorado
Wildfire forced a course reroute on the first and last parts of the iconic out-and-back course that starts in the high-altitude town of Leadville and turns around at the Winfield ghost town. However, over half of this year’s route was the same as the original, including the two summits of Hope Pass. It was about a mile shorter than the traditional route and with a similar amount of vertical gain and loss.
Women
All-day women’s leader Ailsa MacDonald (Canada) ran into trouble in the last 20 miles, and McKendree Hickory, Jacquie Mannhard, and Emma Wood all raced past and onto the podium.
Hickory, also the 2024 High Lonesome 100 Mile winner, won in 19:39.
Mannhard was second in 20:28, and Emma Wood was third in 20:33.
The women’s top five was:

Men
Adrian Macdonald gained the lead near the halfway mark and went on to win the race for the third time in 15:47. Macdonald won in 2021 and 2022 and was second in 2024.
Matthew Zupan was second for most of the race’s second half and finished there in 16:15, and Tim Tollefson was third in 16:45.

Matterhorn Ultraks Extreme – Zermatt, Switzerland
The race was the first of two Skyrunner World Series races on the weekend, but heavy rain cut this one short. The original 27-kilometer race, with 3,175 meters of climbing, was instead limited to 15k with 1,500 meters of climbing. That’s down from 17 miles to just nine miles, and with 4,900 feet of elevation gain. The most technical high-alpine sections, glacier crossings, and ridgeline runs were removed for safety considerations.
Denisa Dragomir (Romania) scored a 55-second win in the women’s race. Dragomir finished in 2:00, and Perrine Abadie (France) was second in 2:01. Patrycja Stanek (Poland) was a close third in 2:03.
The shorter course kept the men’s podium closely packed, too. Alex Oberbacher (Italy) ran 1:39 to beat local runner Martin Anthamatten (Switzerland) by 37 seconds. Anthamatten was in at 1:40, and third-place Louis Dumas (France) was less than a minute behind in 1:41.
Trofeo Kima – Val Masino, Italy
The entire Skyrunner World Series is technical, but the biennial Trofeo Kima race is the crown jewel of the series and an iconic event in its own right. The race ran 52k with 4,200 meters of elevation gain on a route through the Val Masino valley in the Italian Alps. Exposed ridgelines, rock and scree slopes, and seven mountain passes are among the challenges that make helmets required.
Hillary Gerardi (France) won the race for the fourth time. She finished in 7:25 and broke her own course record. Lucille Germain (France) wasn’t far behind in second in 7:32, and Roberta Jacquin (Italy) got on the podium in third in 7:54.

- Kalie McCrystal (Canada) – 7:59:35

Italian men swept the podium, and at the front, William Boffelli led all of it toward a 6:07 finish. Second- and third-place Mattia Bertoncini and Federico Nicolini were next in 6:12 and 6:17.

The next Skyrunner World Series race is the September 5 Maga Skymarathon in Italy.
Additional Races and Runs
L’echappée Belle – Vizille, France
The long course ran for 150k (93 miles). All of the top runners were from the host country. Manon Bohard Cailler beat Charlotte Allain for the women’s win with 28:11 and 31:00 finishes. For the men, Louis Calais won ahead of Ludovic Pommeret in 21:02 and 22:17. Full results.
Grand Raid des Pyrénées – Vielle-Aure, France
The big event had eight races, and nearly all of them were won by French runners. The longest race was the 174k (108 miles) Ultra Tour. Camille Lescuyer and Benjamin Tremont won in 29:16 and 25:22, respectively. Full results.
Triglav Trail Run – Mojstrana, Slovenia
The event had two ultra distances in the Julian Alps and its namesake national park. The long course 101k had just nine finishers, led by Thomas Paris (France) in 16:18. There were no women’s finishers. Host country runners Vika Koban and Klemen Štular championed the 44k in 5:26 and 4:28, and Lisa Schäller (Germany) and Luka Kovačič (Slovenia) won the 26k in 2:30 and 2:04, respectively. Trail du Bélier – La Clusaz, France
It was the 40th year for the 27k mountain race with 1,035 meters of climbing. Sophia Laukli (U.S.) and Bastien Perez (France) won in 2:30 and 2:00. Full results.
Black Spur Ultra – Kimberley, British Columbia, Canada
The Sinister Sports 108k race had Natalie Haney and Kristopher Gero win in 15:55 and 13:13. Full results.
Gravel Worlds 50k – Lincoln, Nebraska
The bike event also had a small 50k running race, and Kaci Lickteig and Jared Wright won in 4:00 and 3:23. Full results.
Firebird 50k – Windham, Maine
The 50k course did three 10-mile loops through Lowell Preserve and North Falmouth Community Forest. Hailey Skiff won the women’s race in 5:55, Mike Conley was the men’s winner in 4:18, and Z Iman won the non-binary category in 7:18. Full results.
Habanero 100 Mile – Cat Spring, Texas
The Trail Racing Over Texas event had Gabby De La Rosa and Jose Arismendez run 30:12 and 31:02 at the top of the 135-mile division, and Kelly Swanson and Jared Rothlauf won the 100 miler in 20:08 and 19:47. Full results.
Shawnee Hills Trail Races – Ozark, Illinois
The race courses ran through the Shawnee National Forest. Raluca Mita and Ryan Kaytor won the 100 miler in 26:26 and 24:40, Mary Kronable and Logan Spinka were best in the 100k in 14:47 and 16:35, and Amy Macintire and Justin Stewart were fastest in the 50k in 6:34 and 5:04. Full results.
Green Lake Endurance Runs – Fayetteville, New York
The 50k race had Emily Elbers and Derek Prosser as its winners in 4:17 and 4:05. Full results.
Twisted Branch Trail Run – Naples, New York
The 65-mile race ran through the state’s Finger Lakes region. Amy Holpuch and Chad Maloy won in 12:41 and 10:46. Full results.
